Friederike Juercke

Research Associate in African heritage and geospatial data science

Friederike is a landscape archaeologist specialising in remote sensing and spatial analysis. Her focus is on combining computational methods with individual stories to create a rich, nuanced understanding of archaeological landscapes and support their protection. Friederike has worked on excavations and survey projects in multiple countries across West and South Asia. She holds a BA and MA in the Archaeology of West Asia from Free University Berlin and an MA in landscape archaeology from Durham University. She obtained her PhD from the University of Cambridge at the end of 2024.

I’m motivated by the prospect of using my skills in ways that are directly useful to heritage professionals. I’m driven by the collaborative spirit of the project that bridges countries and disciplines and am motivated to bring my spatial analysis skills to bear in ways that are directly useful to heritage authorities.

In her free time Friederike enjoys travelling, bouldering, reading crime novels and impressionist art.
