Earth Day is an annual event on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22nd, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. The official theme for 2022 is Invest In Our Planet.
Earth Day 2022 is focused on accelerating solutions to combat our greatest threat, climate change, and to encourage everyone – governments, citizens, and businesses – to do their part. It is pertinent that if we don’t tackle climate change now then we will lose valuable parts of our planet (including our heritage sites), already there is mounting evidence to suggest that we will lose parts of African heritage sites due to climate change. On this important day, therefore, it’s crucial that we fight to save our beautiful planet – sites and monuments included.
