Hannah Nachtegaele

Researcher, DRC

Hannah is a Master’s graduate in Art History and Archaeology from the university of Brussels (ULB), whose work has focussed on the exploitation of historical maps through GIS to reconstruct trade routes in central Africa.
Her degree led her to the Royal Museum of Central Africa (RMCA), where in 2023, she started geolocating archaeological sites from the museum’s inventory. She is now continuing this work in collaboration with the MAEASaM project.

I believe that archaeology and historical studies allow for deconstructing contemporary preconceptions on cultures distant in both time and space.

Aside from African archaeology, Hannah is pursuing a growing interest in lithic technology and experimentation, although she also tries to cling to a personality outside of archaeology, through fibre arts, and fictional literature.
