Over the past few months at the University of Exeter we have been mapping hand dug wells in Southern Ethiopia, known as the Tula Wells, using Google Earth. This work is in partnership with the British Institute In Eastern Africa (BIEA) and the Wells Project. This is a collaborative research project between archaeologists and pastoralist community organisations on the long-term history of indigenous water management and well digging in northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia. The mapping of the wells will be incorporated into a paper on landuse/landcover change resulting in a publication set to be out at the end of the year.
