Researcher, Senegal
Assane joined the MAEASaM project in the second year of his Master’s studies in archaeology, heritage and medieval history at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), where his thesis focuses on the contribution of geomatics in the research and inventory of archaeological sites, with a particular emphasis on the Saloum Delta. In parallel, Assane is enrolled in a Master’s degree in applied geomatics at the Institut Sabdarifa of Dakar. He completed his « Brevet de technicien supérieur » diploma in 2021. Assane is a qualified drone pilot specialising in photogrammetry and is the proud owner of his own Phantom 4 v2 drone. During Assane’s archaeological training at UCAD, he has undertaken several internships with national research teams and participated in general census mapping for Senegal’s Fifth General Census of Population and Habitat in 2023.
What fascinates me most is research and innovation, whether in archaeology, geomatics or programming. These fields provide fertile ground for intellectual exploration and creativity, which gives me great professional and personal satisfaction. I see real opportunities to apply my skills to the work of the MAEASaM project, and am excited by the prospect of gaining experience and collaborating with experts in the field.
