Mapping Africa's

Chikupo Cave (Northern Region)

The Chikupu rock art in Bindura showcases four caves adorned with fine-line paintings. A notable panel features 29 human figures with distinct features, such as long thin legs and large feet, some with divided toes, and others with aprons or tails. The age of the art is unknown.

The rock art of this region and others faces several challenges in terms of conservation. These include unintentional activities like lighting fires that produce smoke and soot causing damage through exfoliation of the rock face, and by natural chemical and mechanical weathering.
