The MAEASaM project is focused on Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe – representing different site types and conditions, in-country needs and data availability, as well as a diversity of threats to archaeological sites.
At all stages, activities are taking place under the direct guidance of the custodians of archaeological sites and monuments in the countries involved, from conceptualisation, to implementation, to planning for long-term sustainability.
The project aims to ensure that the mapping and monitoring components continue to deliver benefits far into the future, through developing solutions with innovative low-resource technologies and fostering a community of users that have collective ownership of – and collective responsibility for – the co-created information resources.
