Serge is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Animal and Agriculture Production from the Institut des Sciences Agrovétérinaires de Kimwenza (ISAV) (2006), an honours degree in Environmental science from the University of Kinshasa, a master’s degree in GIS and remote sensing at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2016) and a PhD degree in remote sensing of invasive plant species at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2020). After completing his PhD, he took a postdoc fellowship position at the University of KwaZulu-Natal on a Water Energy Food nexus project, which was funded by the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (Netherlands). During that position, he mentored students, wrote book chapters and developed web applications.

Serge is particularly enthusiastic about applying programming skills to help address real-world issues.

I like coding for spatial and non-spatial data analyses. Programming helps me to find solutions to the problems of society.

When he’s not at work, Serge enjoys reading and as an enthusiastic animal and plant lover, another of his favourite pastimes is visiting botanical gardens and zoos with his family.
